By the Sword goes to Birmingham

To kick off 2024 we took a road trip to Birmingham to team up with Binni’s Bladez, a fencing group for women. Organised by The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS), the aim was a day of sharing knowledge about our passions, making friends and reaching out to the local community.

We spent the morning chatting about swords and looking at swords, which was loads of fun. Then Binni gave us an awesome Olympic fencing lesson. This was followed by some exhibition bouts by our team members and a lesson for Binni’s students in Sword and Buckler.

A delicious lunch was kindly provided by TAWS, who are also working to eliminate food waste. In the afternoon members of the public came to take lessons in sports fencing and HEMA, as well as handle a variety of different swords.

It was a brilliant success and a thoroughly enjoyable day. Inspiring passion and trying new things is what we are all about, and I have no doubt we have spawned some new HEMA enthusiasts and sports fencers.
